At Social Action For Community Alternative Learning (SACAL)

Our mission is to foster a society that is just, inclusive, and sustainable, where marginalized communities, particularly Tribal, Dalit, and Women, can enjoy equal rights, dignity, and the opportunity to thrive. Through an integrated approach that combines community empowerment, sustainable resource management, gender equity, and livelihood enhancement, we aim to address the deep-rooted issues that perpetuate poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation.

Our mission is driven by the belief that true development can only be achieved when communities are empowered to lead their own change. We strive to create self-sustaining, resilient communities by enabling them to harness natural resources responsibly, advocate for their rights, and participate in decision-making processes.

Our Mission

SACAL is committed to empowering marginalized groups—particularly Tribal, Dalit, and Women communities—by:

Core Mission Objectives

SACAL’s mission is built around several core objectives that guide our work and shape our programs. These objectives serve as the foundation for all our initiatives, helping us create a lasting impact on the lives of marginalized communities.

Empowering Marginalized Communities

We work to empower Tribal, Dalit, and other underprivileged communities to break the cycle of poverty and injustice by fostering self-reliance and encouraging active participation in community development.

  • Community Capacity Building: We focus on strengthening local governance systems and building the capacities of community-based organizations (CBOs) to ensure they can take charge of their own development.
  • Access to Resources: Ensuring that marginalized groups have access to the resources they need for social and economic development, such as land rights, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods

SACAL is dedicated to promoting sustainable livelihoods by helping communities develop income-generating activities that are environmentally sustainable and economically viable.

  • Sustainable Agriculture: We promote organic farming and agroecological practices that conserve natural resources, improve productivity, and reduce the environmental impact of farming.
  • Skill Development: Through vocational training and entrepreneurial support, we help individuals acquire the skills necessary to enter the workforce or start their own businesses.

Advancing Gender Equity and Women’s Empowerment

SACAL believes that gender equality is a cornerstone of any just society. Our mission includes empowering women and ensuring they have equal access to opportunities in all areas of life.

  • Women’s Leadership: We are committed to enhancing women’s leadership at the community level, ensuring they have a voice in governance and decision-making processes.
  • Economic Empowerment: Through microcredit schemes, self-help groups (SHGs), and vocational training, we provide women with the tools and resources needed to achieve economic independence.

Ensuring Environmental Sustainability

We recognize that the health of our environment is intimately tied to the well-being of communities. Our mission includes promoting the sustainable use of natural resources to ensure long-term ecological balance and community resilience.

  • Natural Resource Management: We promote responsible stewardship of natural resources, including water, forests, and land, ensuring that communities can sustainably manage these resources for future generations.
  • Climate Resilience: SACAL works to build climate resilience in rural communities, helping them adapt to the impacts of climate change through sustainable agricultural practices, reforestation efforts, and water conservation.

Ensuring Access to Education and Health

SACAL aims to improve access to basic education and healthcare for marginalized communities, ensuring that they have the tools to break out of the cycle of poverty.

  • Education for All: We work to ensure that children from marginalized communities, especially girls, have access to quality education, providing them with the foundation they need for a better future.
  • Healthcare Access: Through health camps, awareness programs, and maternal health support, we aim to improve healthcare access in remote and underserved communities, reducing preventable illnesses and promoting healthy lives.

Our Vision for the Future

SACAL envisions a world where freedom, dignity, and equal rights are the norms, not the exception. Our mission is to help create a society where marginalized groups are empowered to live with dignity and independence, where natural resources are managed sustainably, and where all people have the opportunity to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

  • Empowered Communities: We see a future where marginalized communities, particularly Tribal, Dalit, and women, are fully empowered, self-reliant, and capable of leading their own development.
  • Sustainable Environment: We envision a future where natural resources are managed responsibly, and communities can thrive without depleting the environment.
  • Inclusive Society: We work towards a society where every individual, regardless of their background, has equal access to opportunities, resources, and the chance to live a life of dignity.
